Overview: The Project Engineer assists the Project Managers and/or Superintendents to ensure work meets quality standards, owner expectations, and profitability. Assesses and responds to customer needs and cultivates customer relationships.
Major Responsibilities
- General Contract and Subcontract administration
- Procurement and expediting of material and equipment.
- Follows up for receipt, review, distribution, and filing of information and documents required for project construction. Includes plan revisions, Requests for Information, Submittals, photos, videos, etc. as required.
- Maintains logs, reflecting the status of shop drawings, requests for clarification, change requests, and proposal requests.
- Reviews plans from the standpoint of constructability. Communicates inconsistencies to the architect via Requests for Information.
- Reviews plans for potential labor saving and other cost-saving methods. Communicates these with the project team and ownership.
- Participates in project schedule updates as needed.
- Attends and takes notes for project team meetings, including weekly Owner/Architect meetings and subcontractor coordination meetings. Distributes meeting minutes to participants.
- Supervision/coordination of subcontractors’ field installations
- Project cost review, reporting, updating, and accounting.
- Review of subcontractor applications for payment.
- Review/negotiate change proposal pricing from subcontractors and prepare change proposal pricing for self-performed work.
- Change order documentation and associated cost reporting and maintenance.
- Research and suggest options on construction means, methods and equipment.
- Maintenance of As-Built plans.
- Quality control and project closeout.
- Monitor/document jobsite safety and accident prevention. Implement all applicable safety programs on project.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field, or the equivalent education and experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires the ability to interface with customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Ability to solve problems and multi-task.
- Has the ability and desire to quickly learn new job-related information.
- Knows how to manage events to achieve goals, is a self-starter, works well without close supervision, and has a record of achieving goals.
- Experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Bluebeam, Takeoff and Document Control Software.
- Display an exemplary work ethic and provide model behavior and guidance to other staff through motivation, instruction, and increased knowledge.
- Maintain a professional image in dress and grooming.
- May be required to perform occasional heavy work exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
